CALL TO ORDER – 6:01 p.m.

President Kirk Newland called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA – 6:01 p.m.

Kathy Yearns moved, seconded Shannon Smith to approve the agenda. Motion carried 7-0.

CONSENT AGENDA – 6:00 p.m.

  1. Minutes of previous meeting (December 19, 2017)

Kirk Cohagan moved, seconded by Kathy Yearns to approve the consent agenda items. Motion carried 7-0.

FINANCIAL REPORT – 6:04 p.m. – Melissa Tennyson

Total revenue is $702,112 and total expenses are $594,195 for the month of December, 2017. Ron McElhinney moved, seconded by Kathy Yearns to approve the financial report. Motion carried 7-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT TIME – 6:05 p.m. –

Several thank you notes were received from faculty and staff to Mr. Amen and Board of Education.

OLD BUSINESS – 6:08 p.m.

  1. There are 3 residents running for Schuyler R-1 School Board on April 3, 2018. Jill Moncrief, Jennifer Pantry and Kathy Yearns.

  2. Proposition K.I.D.S discussion

NEW BUSINESS – 6:28 p.m.

a. Approval by consent agenda the following program evaluations

  1. Gifted and Health program

Kathy Yearns moved, seconded by Kirk Cohagan to approve the Gifted and Health evaluations. Motion carried 7-0.

b. Substitutes

Kathy Yearns moved, seconded by Shannon Smith to approve Jessica Boyer, Kyle Burre, Matthew Dodge, Melody Farley, Stephanie Fox, Alex Garber, & Allison Lockett as additions to the substitute teacher list for 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried 7-0.

c. Approval and deletions of policies and regulations

1. P1300, P1621, P2260, P2740, P2760, P4850

2. R1300, R1621, R2260, R2610, R2673, R2760, R6145, R6250

Ron McElhinney moved, seconded by Kirk Cohagan to approve the policies and regulations. Motion carried 7-0.

Kristi Groseclose moved, seconded by Kirk Cohagan to delete the following policies and regulations: 1310, 2130, 4810, and 6273. Motion carried 7-0.

d. Softball/Baseball field project discussion

Vance Rzepka from VSR Designs will be at the February board meeting to discuss the project process.

e. CSIP (Comprehensive School Improvement Plan)

Superintendent discussed our current and long term goals for the District.

f. February meeting: Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL’S REPORT– Katie Wayman – 6:57 p.m.

December Enrollment: PK-6    346

December Attendance: K-6      94.66%

Programs

  • Tutoring in December serviced 136 students. Second semester tutoring began January 23.

  • Jill Lane, Food and Nutrition Specialist with MU Extension, will be providing food safety and nutrition lessons throughout second semester to K-6 students. She visited fifth and sixth grade classes January 3-9.

  • Judge Lovekamp came January 19th to present Equal Treatment for All to fifth and sixth grade students.

HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Kyle Windy – 6:59 p.m.

  • Enrollment numbers: Junior/Senior High 243

  • 1st Semester Attendance: 93.94%

  • Attendance for December: 93.87%

  • 90/90 Rule: 85%

High School Honor Roll

First Semester (based on grade point average)

45 of 153 students or 29.41% made the “A” Honor Roll

51 of 153 students of 33.33% made the “B” Honor Roll

Junior High Honor Roll

First Semester (based on grade point average)

29 of 86 students or 33.72% made the “A” Honor Roll

33 of 86 students of 38.37% made the “B” Honor Roll

  • MSHSSA Meeting update

  • Spring Semester: We have 24 students taking college credit through MACC this semester

SPECIAL SERVICES DIRECTOR – Raven Weaver – 7:02 p.m.

Schuyler Special Education Child Count

  • The Schuyler R-1 School District is currently providing services for 110 students as of December 2017.

  • 19 Students in our Early Childhood Special Education Program and Glenwood Head Start.

  • 59 Students in K-6 Elementary Building

  • 32 Students in the Jr/Sr High

The State Compliance Plan for Special Education is being revised during the 2017-18 school year. Proposed changes in both a summary chart and a markup of the proposed plan are posted on the DESE website at https://dese/mo./gov/special-e... .

Special Olympics:

Tammy King and Robin Jackson attended the Special Olympics of Missouri Leadership Conference at Tan Tara in Osage Beach, MO. Tammy King was recognized as an Outstanding Coach of the Year for the Northern MO area at a luncheon on Saturday, January 13, 2018.

Ms. King has been a coach for Schuyler Special Olympics for over 10 years. She has been very devoted to keeping the Schuyler team going and making sure they have what is needed to attend district events as well as state events.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT – Robert Amen – 7:03 p.m.

Twenty eight laptops and 2 carts have been purchased for the school. The calendar committee will be meeting with Mr. Amen to discuss the 2018-2019 school calendar.

REQUEST FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION – 7:13 p.m.

Kathy Yearns moved, seconded by Kristi Groseclose to go into executive session as provided in Rs.Mo.610.021 (3, 13) (Personnel Issues) and 610.021 (6, 14) (Student Issues). Motion carried 7-0 by roll call vote: Kirk Cohagan – yes; Shannon Smith – yes; Ron McElhinney – yes; Kathy Yearns – yes; Kristi Groseclose– yes; Nakila Blessing – yes; and Kirk Newland – yes.

RETURN TO REGULAR SESSION – 8:50 p.m.

ADJOURNMENT – 8:50 p.m.

Kristi Groseclose moved, seconded by Kathy Yearns to adjourn. Motion carried 7-0.
